Summer Reading Frequently Asked Questions

What is the Summer Reading Virtual Adventure?

The Harford County Public Library Imagine Your Story Summer Reading Virtual Adventure 2020 for All Ages begins June 1st with an entirely online format. Our Librarians have put together various missions with activities for you to complete throughout the summer. When you complete missions you'll unlock badges, games and bragging rights! New missions are released every Monday.

The Imagine Your Story Summer Reading Virtual Adventure 2020 for All Ages is a fun way to engage with your community and challenge yourself over the summer. Make your own reading goals. For students, reading over the summer break can prevent summer learning loss and help them start the next school year on the right page.

How does it work?

This year, you will set your own reading goals. You will unlock games and earn badges throughout the summer. How many badges will you earn? Print your badge page for a keepsake.

Who can participate?

Infants, toddlers, preschoolers, children, teens, adults—everyone! Children who are too young to read by themselves can participate with an adult. Parents or caretakers are welcome to sign young children up and assist them with missions.

What if I don’t have a library card?

Library cards are not required for participation. However, if you would like to get a Harford County Public Library card to access eBooks and more, get started with a Digital Library Card now!

How do I create a family account?

If you are a parent or guardian and would like to create a family account to manage your children's accounts, simply follow the directions to create an account for yourself, then follow the prompts to register your children. If you have already created an account for yourself, log in and click on the "Account" button on the top menu of your screen, then select "Add Child Account." If your child also already has an account, select "Link Existing Account."

How can I manage my children’s accounts?

To find your kids’ accounts, look for the “Family Accounts” box on the left-hand side of your account.  Simply click the down arrow to open the drop down menu to easily switch between your family members’ accounts!

What if my infant, toddler or preschooler already has an account for 1000 Books Before Kindergarten?

You will need to add a new child account with a unique username for the Imagine Your Story Summer Reading Virtual Adventure. Once created, link it to your family account.

How can I share my progress with friends?
